56ers Playoff Run Falls Short
July 13, 2012
TONY PENNA FIELD - The Richland 56ers saw their playoff run come to an end at the hands of Bedford 11-1 Friday night. The 56ers had a brief 1-0 lead in the first inning when Cameron Kaminsky's sacrifice fly scored Alex Paros, but Bedford had too much firepower as the 56ers ended their season with a 10-15 slate. Richland was able to advance to the third round of the playoffs thanks to a big 15-5 win over Meyersdale the previous day. Bobby Varner got the win while Cam Kaminsky, Dan Berkey, Kris Brown, and Alex Paros all had multiple hits. In the playoff opener, Brandon Fesko kept unbeaten Somerset at bay through six innings, holding onto a 2-1 lead until Brent Barron hit a two-run home run to give the hosts a 3-2 victory. Cameron Kaminsky and Ryan Orlovsky each had RBI for Richland. The playoff run and regular season streak was a fitting ending to the legion careers of Cameron Kaminsky, Kris Brown, and Alex Paros. The trio began playing legion baseball as 15 yr olds in 2009 and helped the 56ers get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2006. July 9, 2012
TONY PENNA FIELD - Richland completed a remarkable hot to streak to end the regular season and clinch the final Cambria County American Legion playoff berth with a 10-0 win over Portage Monday afternoon. The 56ers rallied down the stretch by winning seven of their final nine games to rebound from a dreadful 2-11 first half of the season. The 56ers were keyed by the pitching of Ryan Orlovsky, Brandon Fesko, Bobby Varner, and Carlo Kazmierczyk during the streak. Cameron Kaminsky, Alex Paros, Fesko, and Jake Wissinger provided the offensive punch at the 56ers needed to earn big wins over Lilly, Ebensburg, Stoystown, St. Michael, Bedford and Portage. The 56ers will now open the double-elimination round robin playoff tournament on Wednesday against undefeated Somerset 22-0. The 56ers' last playoff appearance was in 2006, where they lost a semifinal series 2-0 to St. Michael. Rally Falls Short, 56ers Lose to Patton 9-8
June 27, 2012
TONY PENNA FIELD - Patton scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to edge Richland 9-8. A controversial call in the bottom of the first inning hurt the 56ers as an apparent three-run home run by Jake Wissinger was taken off the board and overruled by the home plate umpire as a ground-rule double. Video replays showed Wissinger's drive cleared the fence at the 350 mark in center field. The loss drops the 56ers record to 2-11. The Redmen were led by Dylan Corl who was 3 for 5 with a double and two runs batted in. Josh Serafin, Brandon Crawford, Shane Mallin (double, 2 RBI) and Nathan Bearer added two hits each for Patton.
